It’s never easy to share personal news, especially when it involves someone you love deeply. But sometimes, opening up isn’t just about asking for support — it’s about reminding ourselves that we’re not alone, and that there’s strength in community. Today, I want to give you an update on my son, Anthony.
A Pain That Changed Everything
About a month ago, I reached out asking for support. At the time, we didn’t have many answers. Anthony had started feeling pain in his lower abdomen — something that seemed minor at first, but enough to warrant a doctor’s visit.
Tests were run. Bloodwork, imaging, more appointments. The waiting was brutal. And when the results came in, life suddenly split into two parts: before and after.
Doctors discovered a tumor in Anthony’s colon. The initial diagnosis suggested stage 2 colon cancer. As terrifying as that was, there was a small measure of relief. His vital organs — heart, lungs, liver, kidneys — were all functioning well. There was hope in that.
From Stage 2 to Stage 4 — In the Blink of an Eye
Unfortunately, further testing brought us tougher news. Anthony’s cancer had progressed far more rapidly than expected. It was now classified as stage 4. A second tumor had appeared, and cancer had spread to several lymph nodes.
It’s the kind of news that hits like a truck. One moment you’re cautiously optimistic — the next, you’re reeling from the speed and severity of something you can’t control.
The Battle Plan
Despite the setback, we’re not backing down. Anthony’s treatment will begin with radiation therapy, which doctors estimate will be able to target about 85% of the cancer. On top of that, he’ll undergo chemotherapy to boost the radiation’s impact and help manage any remaining cancerous cells.
We’re throwing everything we’ve got at this. Every option, every ounce of energy, every bit of faith.
The good news — and there is good news — is that his other organs remain healthy. That matters. It means his body still has strength to fight, and so does his spirit.
Anthony’s Strength
In the middle of all this, Anthony has shown more courage than I knew was possible. He makes me smile even when my heart is breaking. He jokes with the nurses. He keeps our spirits up when we should be the ones supporting him.
There’s something powerful about that — about a young man facing stage 4 cancer and still choosing joy. Still choosing to fight. Still choosing life.
I believe in that strength. I believe in him.
A Parent’s Plea
I’m sharing all this because I know how powerful collective hope can be. If you’re reading this, I ask that you keep Anthony in your thoughts and prayers. Light a candle. Say a word of encouragement. Whatever faith, energy, or positivity you can spare — we’ll take it.
This fight is personal. It’s painful. But it’s not without purpose. And we’re not walking it alone.
Final Thoughts
If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that life can change in an instant. Pain doesn’t ask permission. But neither does love. Neither does hope.
Thank you to everyone who’s reached out over the past month. Your support means more than words can express. Below is a photo of Anthony — not just to share his face, but to remind us all that behind every diagnosis is a real person with dreams, laughter, and a future worth fighting for.
We’re taking this one day at a time. And we’re moving forward — together.
