Today at Walmart, something beautiful happened—something that reminded me just how powerful kindness can be, especially when it comes from the younger generation.
While shopping, my nephew Lakken noticed an elderly gentleman who appeared to be struggling. The man couldn’t lift his head properly, making it difficult for him to see beyond the ground and a small area around him.
Without hesitation, Lakken turned to me and asked, “Can I help him?” I encouraged him, and he confidently walked over to the man, offering his assistance.
The moment was touching.
The man’s face lit up with gratitude. He thanked Lakken warmly, and it was clear that this small act meant the world to him. As they continued through the store, Lakken eagerly helped him find what he needed—darting from aisle to aisle with youthful energy and a heart full of compassion.
The elderly man shared that he hadn’t been offered help in years. He was deeply moved by Lakken’s kindness and said how wonderful it was to meet such a respectful and considerate young person.
But Lakken didn’t stop there.
He stayed with the man all the way to the checkout and even ensured he got to the shuttle bus safely. When the man tried to offer him a tip as a thank you, Lakken gently declined, saying he was simply happy to help and that the man should keep his money.
I was overwhelmed with pride.
In a world where we often hear about negativity, this small moment of compassion reminded me that there is so much good out there—especially in the hearts of our youth.
Thank you, Lakken, for reminding us all that a little kindness goes a long way.
